I Need Help

Asking for help can be very difficult. This might be because you fear being perceived in the wrong way or your afraid of being rejected or maybe you just don't know where to start or who to ask. This fear or confusion is understandable, but know that asking for help is a completely normal part of life and almost everyone of us has to do it. Here at East Shore UMC we want to make asking for help as easy as possible. This page is full of local resources to help you with needs such as food assistance, housings assistance, utility's,  shelters, education, mental health, prescription drug assistance, drug addition recovery, and faith. Remember you are not alone in your struggles, we are here to help!

Food Assistance

Soup's On Community Meal

Soup's On serves meals to the community every Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. We are located inside East Shore United Methodist Church at 23002 Lakeshore Blvd. Euclid, OH 44123. Our meals are made to go, so all you have to do is drive or walk up to our back doors (attached to the parking lot) and we will serve you the meal. Soup's On has been in operation for over 15 years and is completely run by volunteers. Soup's On is dedicated to making sure no one goes to bed hungry. Whether you are rich or poor, old or young, come as you are and expect to feel welcomed!

Euclid Hunger Center

The Euclid Hunger Center’s mission is to offer a positive, compassionate environment in which to provide food assistance to eligible Euclid residents. The Euclid Hunger Center operates as a choice pantry for the residents of Euclid.

Greater Cleveland Food Bank - Euclid Neighborhood Pantry

​The Euclid Neighborhood Pantry is a client-choice pantry located at 25897 Euclid Avenue, Unit #4. Here, experience a grocery shopping trip where you get to choose what you do and don't want.

The pantry offers a number of additional services, such as cell phone assistance through SafeLink, nutrition education, healthcare-related services, free books for children, and a community resource board. Metro Health's mobile unit is also on-site each Wednesday.

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank has many resources to help you get food access.

East Shore UMC Shore Shoppe

East Shore UMC offers a resale shop called the Shore Shoppe. The store offers some brand name clothing, men's, women's, children, shoes, accessories, and some home good items. The store is located in the basement of the church and all processes go to the operation of the church. The shop is completely volunteer-run and runs off of a freewill offering system. Most items have a recommended freewill offering of $1 or less!

Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity ReStore

​The Habitat ReStore are retail stores open to the public. We accept donations of new and gently used furniture, housewares, building materials, tools, plumbing, electrical and much more. ReStores resell these items to the public 50-75% off retail prices. All net proceeds benefit Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity to build affordable, decent housing for families in need.

Housing Assistance

Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority

​Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to apartments for elderly families.

Public housing is limited to income-qualified families and individuals. CMHA determines your eligibility based on:
  • Annual gross income;
  • Whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a disability, or as a family; and
  • U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status. If you are eligible, CMHA will check your references to make sure you and your family will be good tenants.

Utility Assistance

Federal Energy Assistance Programs - HEAP, HWAP, WCP, SCP, & PIPP

HEAP is a federally funded program designed to help meet the high cost of home heating. Open enrollment for heap starts August 1st thru May 31st.

HWAP is a federally funded, low in-come residential energy efficiency program. This program can save energy, cut your gas and electric bills, and make your home more comfortable.  If you qualify for this program, you could receive the following services at no cost:
  • Furnace tune-ups, clean and check
  • Minor repair of windows, doors & weather-stripping
  • Attic and sidewall insulation
  • Hot water tank insulation

WCP is a special component of the heap emergency home energy assistance program (E-Heap) the E-Heap is administed by local agencies. This program provides assistance once per heating season to eligible households.

SCP is the low-income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP) – summer crisis program. The program is designed to help qualified households pay for summer cooling.

PIPP is an extended payment arrangement that requires regulated gas and electric companies to accept payments based on a percentage of the household income. You must re-certify yearly for this program.

Who is eligible?
  • Homeowners and renters who participate in the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), the Percentage of Income Payment program (PIP), receive Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), or receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) automatically qualify.
  • Other homeowners and renters can qualify for the program based on the following income limits:
Applications for the Regular HEAP program will be accepted August 1st, through May 31st, of every year. The total household income of an applicant must be at or below 200 percent of the Federal Fiscal Year. Please visit energyhelp.ohio.gov for a list of all included and excluded income.

I am a renter. Can I still apply for free weatherization services?
  • Renters who receive HEAP, PIP, TANF, SSI, or meet the income limits are eligible to apply .
  • Your landlord must sign an agreement and pay a small contribution toward the cost of services. (Landlord contribution is greater if heat is included in the rent or extensive heating work is needed)
  • Landlords who meet the income limits themselves may have their contributions waived.
A household applying for HEAP must report total gross household income for the past 12 months for all members, except wage or salary income earned by dependent minors under 18 years old. Both homeowners and renters are eligible for assistance.

24-hour Suicide Prevention & Mental Health/Addiction Crisis Hotline - FrontLine

​Reaching out to adults and children in Northeast Ohio to end homelessness, prevent suicide, resolve behavioral health crises and overcome trauma. FrontLine's efforts directly help those who are homeless, severely mentally disabled, in psychiatric crisis, and those who have been traumatized by violence in their home or community. As their services have expanded over the years, the philosophy of reaching out, engaging those with the highest barriers and building the trust necessary for them to engage in care remains at the forefront of FrontLine's purpose.

​Rx Outreach is a non-profit mail order pharmacy that offers more than 1,000 medication strengths that cover most chronic diseases. Rx Outreach is available to qualifying individuals and families. ​Ohio HIV Drug Assistance Program (OHDAP)

​The OHDAP formulary provides medications to treat HIV and HIV-related conditions. The program is one of last resort, meaning the program can help cover some of the costs associated with living with HIV not otherwise covered by insurance or other community resources. For eligible participants, medications included in the OHDAP formulary are provided free of charge. The medications are available through a mail-order pharmacy or from an OHDAP contracted retail location. An applicant must be a resident of Ohio, be HIV positive, meet financial eligibility guidelines, and re-enroll every six months.

​COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT SERVICES

Community Assessment & Treatment Services promotes the social justice needs of the community by providing high-quality, cost-effective, evidence-based interventions that comprehensively address the chemical dependency and behavioral health needs of a diverse clientele. ​Community Assessment and Treatment Services offers residential treatment for alcohol and drug addiction at their Northeast center. Their residential treatment is designed to reduce further addictive habits and help the clients develop healthier lifestyles. Their treatment is available to clients after they go through the assessment service, which diagnoses and recommends inpatient or outpatient treatment. Their inpatient treatment uses individual counselling for personalized counsel, group counselling for encouragement and support, and drug testing sessions to ensure that the client is appropriately recovering under their care.

Harm Reduction Ohio

Harm Reduction Ohio (HRO) is a human rights organization working to improve the health and happiness of people who use drugs.

Specifically, HRO is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports drug policies based on science, health, compassion and human rights. We distributed distributed 42,000 naloxone kits in Ohio in 2022. The naloxone reversed several thousand potentially fatal overdoses.

  • empower people who use drugs to care for themselves.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who come together to solve their drinking problem.  It doesn’t cost anything to attend A.A. meetings. There are no age or education requirements to participate. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem.
